MARINE CONSULTANTS HONG KONG.

The original “Marine Consultants Hong Kong” was founded in 1981 by two master mariners, Capt. D.M. Cauvin and Capt. R.E. Herman. At the time the company was founded, Capt. Cauvin was already an experienced marine surveyor and one of Hong Kong’s best-known yacht surveyors, while Capt. Herman had command experience at sea and experience in cargo superintendence.

For over a decade the company carried out a variety of marine survey and consulting work in Hong Kong and neighbouring countries, with most of the day-to-day survey work being carried on by Capt. Herman.

One of the founding partners, Capt. Cauvin, died in the late 1980’s. Before his death he sold out his interest in the company to Capt. Herman, who took over the management of both Marine Consultants Hong Kong and its associated company, Yacht Consultants Ltd. and continued to operate both companies until 1992 when he closed them down in order to take up full-time employment as a cargo superintendent with a major overseas shipping company.

In 2002, Capt. Herman resumed business as an independent cargo superintendent, marine surveyor and consultant in Hong Kong, and formed the present company, as a sole-proprietorship business. The new company was again named “Marine Consultants Hong Kong”, after its predecessor, but with the intention of carrying out both large vessel and small craft business under one company.

The present company,“Marine Consultants Hong Kong” carries out cargo superintendence, ship and cargo surveys, and a variety of small craft services, including yacht surveys, boatbuilding and repair superintendence and small craft deliveries.

At present, Marine Consultants Hong Kong is operated as a “one man company” with Capt. Herman as the only consultant/surveyor/cargo superintendent employed by the company on a full-time basis, but the company has access to additional professional staff on a part-time basis when required.
