YACHT AND SMALL CRAFT SURVEYS & SERVICES:

Our proprietor, Capt. Herman, as well as being an experienced seafarer and marine surveyor, is also an experienced yachtsman who has sailed a variety of craft in coastal waters and has carried out over twenty long-distance deliveries of sailing and motor yachts. In addition to his seafaring qualifications, he also holds local Class I Pleasure Vessel Master’s and Engineer’s licenses.

Captain Herman is experienced in the survey of motor and sailing yachts, launches, junks, fishing craft and other small craft, constructed of aluminium alloys, ferro-cement, glass-fibre reinforced polymers (GRP/FRP), steel and wood. He has supervised construction of yachts, junks & other small craft in Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Chinese mainland. He is familiar with traditional and modern ship- and boatbuilding methods, both Western and Asian, including wooden & plywood construction (cold-moulded, carvel and clinker), GRP construction (hand & machine laid up), and metal construction (welded & rivetted) . He has extensive knowledge of sails, rigging and navigational systems, and although he is not a marine engineer, he has extensive knowledge of small craft propulsion and auxiliary machinery, electrical systems, plumbing and piping arrangements, etc.

During the period from 1981 until 1992, and from 2002 until the present, Capt Herman has carried out the following services for yachtsmen

Yacht Surveys:

Condition surveys of yachts (for prospective purchasers, and for insurance or finance companies)

Damage Surveys of Yachts (for Owners or Underwriters)

Loading & Discharging Surveys of Yachts shipped as cargo on board ship.

Rigging Surveys:

Small craft building & repair supervision:

Supervision of construction of new sailing and motor yachts and pleasure junks.

Supervision of packing and cradling of yachts prior to shipment

Supervision of repair, reconstruction and renovation of yachts, including damage repairs.

Supervision of rigging and commissioning of yachts.

Drawing up repair lists and work specifications.

Other services:

Compass adjusting (yachts and small craft).

Installation, calibration and repair of instruments, and carrying out of sea trials.

Supervision of shipment of yachts.

Valuation of yachts (based on a condition survey)

Yacht delivery.

Yacht salvage.

Acting as marine coordinator managing small craft during the filming of a TV mini-series.

Scrutineering of yachts prior to races,

Acting as starter/o.o.d./course official during yacht races.

During the same period, Captain Herman has also carried out condition surveys, valuations, damage surveys, etc. of tugs, barges/lighters, fishing vessels, fish carriers, cement carriers, and other vessels.
