CONSULTING:
We call ourselves Marine Consultants. What does that mean?
When many people think of a consultant, they picture of a kind of professional yes-man who is paid an exorbitant fee by a government department or large corporation to write a very impressive-looking report justifying whatever the client has already decided to do, so that if the project turns pear-shaped, the client has someone to whom he can pass the buck. Such reports are usually made as ambiguous, difficult to understand and technical as possible, in order to protect the consultant and his client from blame, and they command high fees in order to compensate the consultant for the risk and provide a kick-back for the clients staff.
If that is the type of consultant you have in mind, sorry, you have come to the wrong place!
Not all consultants, of course, conform to the stereotype depicted above. There are many different types of consultants, who provide a very wide variety of advice and services to a wide variety of clients. Our own consulting services are aimed at using the practical knowledge and experience our proprietor and his associates have gained during many years of work and study, to provide valuable advice and to find practical solutions to everyday problems, at an affordable fee.
While we have much experience that would be extremely useful in major consulting and research projects, up to the present time our work has been much more humdrum.
Our fields of expertise include maritime operations (involving a variety of vessel types), port operations, cargo handling, boatyard operations, sailing & small craft operation, yacht, junk and small craft design (modern and traditional) and sailing vessel rigging (including modern and traditional cruising and racing yacht rigs, junk rigs and square rig).
Although our knowledge, experience and expertise is biased towards the operational and design side rather than the business and financial side, our advice can nevertheless reap impressive financial benefits for our clients because, in the long run, operations which are efficient are also cost-effective.
Examples of the type of consulting services we have provided in the past include:
Maritime-related:
Yachting/Small Craft related:
It costs a client nothing to pick up a telephone and talk to us about a problem. If we can provide him with the solution, the advice or the manpower he needs, we will quote him a reasonable fee for doing so, based on the amount of time and work required, and the value of the service provided.. If we can not help him, we will tell him so directly, not waste his time and his money.
Our regular clients are always free to consult us, and often do, and the advice we give them is sometimes provided free of charge, in exchange for their using our services when they have other paying work, such as surveys, cargo superintendence work, etc.
